NH-L9x65 is another low profile cooler from Noctua, and this one has some more height to it. It also comes with the same compact 95x95mm dimensions to offer full compatibility with memory and graphicscards on mini-ITX motherboards. The fan is the same as on NH-L9i. Packaging is sturdy and professional. Its not exactly a feeling of fashion on the inside, but is highly professional and functional. Included is the fan, cooler, thermal paste, low noise adapter, a Noctua Metal Case-Badge, mounting kit, screwdriver, and instructions how to install.



When opening the instructions we see that the steps to install are very few and looks to be very easy to perform. Once starting to install we experience that is installation quick and enjoyable. Components are in bags with labels on them which saves time while installing, because you only open components for on the parts you need, since you can use this for both AMD and Intel.



This cooler has excellent if not superior compability for memory and graphicscards. Noctua says on their product page

… 95x95mm footprint, which guarantees 100% RAM and PCIe compatibility on Intel based ITX mainboards and makes the cooler more convenient to work with as it doesn’t overhang near-socket connectors.

Noctua providing a guarantee is impressive! Noctua also has an official list of motherboards that are tested to fit with this cooler. This is perfect for people who build their own computer, and wants official information on compability.  Noctua has trust in their SecuFirm2 mounting, so they have support for ancient sockets and future processor sockets as well!

Complying with the open SecuFirm™ standard, the NH-L9x65 can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. If technically possible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets.


Performance & Noise

Tests were performed at 22 C, in an open Mini-ITX case,  at stock speeds of the processor. HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder.

The NF-A9x14 PWM  fan included use Self-Stabilising Oil-pressure (SSO) bearing which will give even better stabilisation, precision and durability.


Noctua TDP Guidelines

65W or less is the ideal spot for this cooler. For over 84W TDP it should be used with care. Overclocking is not suitable. For detailed info see Official Noctua TDP guide.



For an office PC, light to medium gaming PC, or a slim HTPC solution this cooler could be a great choice.  Installation is very easy and quick, which is is a big plus. Compability is perfect for memory, and graphicscards. Noctuas compability documentation list for motherboards is impressive and very useful. For a silence enthusiast this is a very good choice for processors with lower TDP, since during idle the fan is dead silent. Noctua NH-L9x65 is a premium, easy product, that is very quiet for its intended TDP use of 65W.
